TCU College of Education senior, Elizabeth Ellis, was named as the first recipent of the Dr. Martha Hackley Salmon Teacher Scholar Apprenticehip in May 2013. This paid apprenticeship honors a deserving junior or senior education major with an opportunity to enhance their learning experience outside of the classroom.

During her apprenticeship, Elizabeth plans to create and lead a seminar for Secondary English Education majors on exploring ways to incoporate technology into classrooms. She also plans to create a College of Education Student Panel for the Monday at TCU program as well as assist with Study Abroad information sessions, the Paschal Writing Camp and the Regional Spelling Bee hosted by the College of Education.

Elizabeth is a Secondary English Education major from Chicago, Illinois. Along with several academic achievements, Elizabeth is a member of Order of Omega, TCU Student Foundation and Pi Beta Phi sorority. After she graduates in May, Elizabeth hopes to teach high school English either in Texas, Chicago or abroad. She enjoys spending time with family and friends, being outdoors, writing and reading.

Dr. Martha Salmon established the Dr. Martha Hackley Salmon Teacher Scholar Apprenticeship in the College of Education in the fall of 2012. This gift to the College of Education was modeled after an apprenticeship set up previously by the Salmon family in the English Department—the Christine Salmon Gauthier Student Apprenticeship—in loving memory of their daughter who received her English degree from TCU in 1994. Dr. Salmon, class of ’66, serves on the College of Education Board of Visitors and is a loyal TCU fan. She is a respected education professional and serves in leadership positions on community boards and organizations related to education.
