The staff of TCU 360, the news website produced by student journalists at Texas Christian University, has received a first-place national award for its breaking news coverage surrounding the arrests of numerous TCU students on drug charges in February.

The TCU 360 staff joins three student journalists from Image magazine who were recognized nationally.

TCU 360 received the first-place Pinnacle Award in the breaking news category from the College Media Association, the nation’s largest organization of student media advisers. The Pinnacle Awards reflect excellence in electronic media, including collegiate radio, television, and news web sites.

The award was announced at the joint College Media Association/Associated Collegiate Press Convention in Chicago Nov. 1-4, and three Image magazine journalists also received awards from the ACP.

Emily Atteberry, former managing editor for the magazine, received a fourth-place award as a national finalist in the ACP Design of the Year contest, in the newsmagazine/special section cover category, for the cover of the spring 2012 issue of Image magazine.

In the 2012 ACP Story of the Year contest, Ryan Osborne received honorable mention in the diversity category for his story on the university’s efforts to broaden the makeup of the student body, which was published in the spring 2012 issue of Image magazine.

Daniel Ethridge, an Image magazine photojournalist and current photo editor, also finished in the top three nationally this fall in the Society of Professional Journalists Mark of Excellence Awards category for photo-illustration. Ethridge received a 2011 National Finalist Award for his photo-illustration that accompanied a story about student suicides at TCU in the fall 2011 issue of Image.
