Eighth annual Schieffer Symposium focuses on 2012 election

For the second year in a row, the eighth annual Schieffer Symposium did not have a stated theme, but the 2012 edition was easily the heaviest on insights from the front lines of the campaign trail. There was less disagreement among the panelists than in past forums as the race for the White House has crystallized in recent days with the departure of Rick Santorum from the Republican primary season. 

 

Health care, Hispanic voters, the electoral map, vice president running mate possibilities and super political action committees also were topics covered during the 90-minute political discussion as CBS newsman Bob Schieffer ’59 welcomed another quartet of national journalists to TCU for his annual conversation on the state of the media. Joining Schieffer were Jake Tapper, senior White House correspondent for ABC News; John F. Harris, co-founder and editor-in-chief of Politco.com; Nora O’Donnell, chief White House correspondent for CBS; and Chuck Todd, chief White House correspondent for NBC News.
