Unconventional resources: TCU's George Mitchell Scholars

TCU’s George Mitchell Scholars benefit immensely. In addition to the generous scholarship, there is the prestige associated with an award that honors the legendary oilman, who has been called “the father of the Barnett Shale” because Mr. Mitchell pioneered the technology that has led to the development of such unconventional gas plays. There are chances for the Mitchell Scholars to meet energy industry leaders. And for this year’s winners, there was a unique opportunity: private words with George W. Bush (not to mention a picture with the former president).

This is the third year of the program, created as a tribute to Mr. Mitchell by Hart Energy Publishing in partnership with the TCU Energy Institute. Winners were announced at Hart Energy’s Developing Unconventional Gas (DUG™) Conference & Exhibition in Fort Worth and were presented to more than 2,000 industry leaders in the audience. President Bush was the keynote speaker.

“Hart Energy is proud to support TCU students with its contributions to the TCU George Mitchell Scholars program,” said Richard A. Eichler, Hart Energy’s president and CEO. “Our association with the TCU Energy Institute is a natural partnership for us, and there’s no better place to recognize these gifted students than during DUG — the industry’s premier unconventional resource event.”
