The TCU Office of Admission has established a new way to keep prospective Horned Frogs informed about all things TCU by creating a digital viewbook, the university's student recruitment brochure.
Liz Rainwater, director of marketing for the Office of Admission, said "Other universities have put their viewbooks online, so that's not new. But they don't have anything like what we have.”
TCU's digital viewbook (www.viewbook.tcu.edu) was created in responsive design instead of the basic HTML format. Responsive design enhances the experience by recognizing if the user is viewing on a desktop, tablet or smartphone. According to Rainwater, most online viewbooks look the same on the screen as they do in the brochure. "There is animation and clickable links to connect with departmental websites and videos. It is interactive and much more dynamic," she said. TCU’s digital viewbook offers much more than what students see in the printed brochure. Rainwater believes that paper and the Web don't translate directly and are not interchangeable, so the new viewbook design required creativity. This was achieved by including all original information with additions from interactive online sources, such as TCU’s social media sites like Flickr and YouTube.
