North
Texas area students will compete Wednesday, March 20, in the TCU College of
Education Regional Spelling Bee with hopes of advancing to the annual Scripps
National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C. The bee is scheduled for 8:30 to noon
on the TCU campus in the Brown-Lupton University Union, 2901 Stadium Drive. The
winner will also receive an opportunity to take a TCU audit course in the
summer.
Spelling
bee contestants have come a long way already: They first had to win at the
local level, hosted by 457 schools in a 16 county area, and then went on to win
one of 25 area bees. Students competing in this regional spelling bee represent
public, private, parochial, charter and home schools located throughout North
Texas.
The
TCU College of Education Regional Spelling Bee is sponsored by the College of
Education's Center for Urban Education.
