TCU Opera Studio presents Mozart’s masterpiece, Don Giovanni March 1 – 3 onstage at Ed Landreth Auditorium, 2800 S. University Drive.

Performances are Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m.  Admission is $15/$5 at the door, free with TCU ID.

The production will be sung in the original Italian and will be staged as a Commedia dell’ Arte play, the characters of the Commedia troupe taking the roles in the operatic story.  (Don Giovanni is played by Il Capitano,  Leporello by Brighella, etc.)

While often presented as a very serious classical opera, Mozart himself subtitled the work drama giocoso, playful drama. This approach also allows more than one singer to portray a character within a single performance—a definite asset in the educational setting.

The production is fully staged and costumed and accompanied by Mark Metcalf and Marco Cuevas on two of TCU’s Steinway concert grand pianos.  The production is conceived and directed by Richard Estes.  Costumes are by Bunny Miles, stage design by Wade Giampa, and lighting design by John Thompson.
