More than 800 graduate in Fall commencement ceremony

TCU today bestowed degrees on 826 students at its Fall Commencement, graduating students from 34 states, including Texas, and 23 foreign countries in a formal ceremony held in Daniel-Meyer Coliseum. Students received their diplomas from Chancellor Victor J. Boschini, Jr.

 

Newsman Jim Lehrer, host of PBS NEWSHOUR, delivered the Commencement address. The University also today conferred an Honorary Doctor of Letters degree on Mr. Lehrer.

 

Besides those receiving bachelor's degrees, there were 210 master's degree candidates, 23 doctoral candidates and 17 Brite Divinity School graduate candidates. Ninety-eight graduated with Latin Honors: 54 cum laude, 27 magna cum laude and 17 summa cum laude. Two students graduated with a perfect 4.0 GPA and seven students received double degrees.

 

The University also recognized professors for their outstanding teaching and quality research or creativity. Nominees for the Deans' Creativity or Research Award include Mark B. Houston (Marketing); Jan Lacina (Education); Gerald Gabel (School of Music); Harriet Cohen (Social Work); Susan Ramirez (History and Geography); Charlotte Hogg (English) and Charles Lord (Psychology).

 

Nominees for the Deans' Teaching Award include Gregory K. Stephens (Management, Entrepreneurship & Leadership); Frank N. Thomas (Education); Jennifer Engler (Theatre); Linda Moore (Social Work); Lisa K. Vanderlinden (Anthropology); Theresa Strouth Gaul (English); Efton Park (Mathematics); and Jeff Geider (Institute of Ranch Management).
