Geovanny Bonilla, May 2011 graduate and alumnus of the Beta Theta chapter of Phi Kappa Sigma at TCU, is now serving Fort Worth Polytechnic High School as a member of TCU’s Advise TX College Advising Corps. As a member of the organization whose aim is to promote college-going cultures in their respective communities, Geovanny works full-time with low-income, underrepresented, and first generation high school students, assisting them with their college searches, completing college admissions and financial-aid applications, and enrolling at their best fit school.

Though the program was highly supported by the high school’s administration, the need for greater access to online resources and limited funding led Geovanny to reach out to his Greek organization for help, who could not be happier to assist a young alumnus in serving the community. “I think this is an excellent opportunity for the students at Poly, and also Phi Kappa Sigma as an organization. As a member of a fraternity, and Geovanny as a Beta Theta alumnus, it is our duty to help our brother in serving the community in any we way we can,” said Hunter Hullet, a junior at TCU and current president of Phi Kap.

With a generous donation from the chapter, Geovanny was able to acquire the resources in order to create a College Resource Center in his office to better serve the students in their pursuit for higher education. “I want to take the opportunity to thank Beta Theta Phi Kap for providing Advise TX and Polytechnic High school with this donation,” said Geovanny upon setting up the center. “Students will now have better access to web resources in my office where they will continue to work on college applications, financial aid forms, and scholarship applications. This ultimately is going to be a major asset in continuing to build a college-going culture here at Poly.”
