TCU and Arlington ISD join forces to strengthen future nursing profession
Fort Worth, TX

TCU and Arlington Independent School District (AISD) recently announced a new partnership to strengthen future nursing professionals. Qualifying AISD students are now guaranteed admission status to TCU and the Harris College of Nursing & Health Sciences. Students can begin in the program at TCU next fall."We look forward to welcoming these exceptional AISD students into TCU and the Harris College of Nursing and Health Sciences," said Dr. Paulette Burns, dean of the Harris College. "Even more important than the provisions stated in our agreement is the spirit of cooperation between the AISD and TCU - we're both committed to providing opportunities for students who are prepared to enter and be successful in post-secondary studies and the work force."
To qualify, Arlington students will have to graduate with an SAT score of 1800 or ACT score of 27; three years of a foreign language; four years of math and science courses, including some Advanced Placement credits; and health science courses in anatomy, physiology and clinical rotation. The students would enter TCU as nursing majors.
"I couldn't be happier about this partnership with TCU," said AISD Superintendent Dr. Mac Bernd. "I've wanted this opportunity for our students for a long time, and I'm thankful that TCU stepped up to extend them this amazing chance at pursuing their dreams."
District and TCU officials began working on the partnership a year and a half ago; this is the first such collaboration for TCU. Faculty members at both schools will seek opportunities for students to visit the TCU campus to observe classrooms to enhance the high school experience and to prepare the students to be successful on the university campus. In addition, TCU faculty will work with AISD to provide information on nursing career and educational opportunities, including having Arlington students shadow TCU nursing students.
