TCU participates in Global Days for Darfur

TCU students, faculty and staff will rally together this week to honor more than 400,000 people who have lost their lives in the ongoing genocidal violence in Darfur. The TCU chapter of Students Taking Action Now: Darfur (STAND) will join activists around the world in promoting Global Days for Darfur. This week long initiative features seven events dedicated to educating the TCU community about the escalating violence in Darfur and encouraging activism.

The “Build-A-Camp” event on Tuesday, April 24 challenges TCU students to create a miniature refugee camp using scrounged materials.

A film screening of “Lost Boys of Sudan” Wednesday, April 25; 7:30-10 p.m. in Sid Richardson Lecture Hall 1 shows the struggle these boys have endured.

The 5K Walk/Run for Darfur on campus, Saturday, April 28 is open to the entire community. Participants in the walk/run are asked to give a minimum of $10. All donations will be sent to the Save Darfur Coalition and UNICEF Emergency Programs in Sudan.

A memorial built by TCU students paying homage to the people who have died across Darfur will be on display Sunday, April 29 from 12-6 p.m. on the TCU campus. At Darfur Stories: Tell Them, community members will read first-person accounts of the stories Sunday, April 29; 3-5 p.m. in the Student Center Lounge on campus. Members of the local community are also invited to join TCU students, faculty and staff at 5:30 p.m. at the memorial site for a moment of silence in honor of the millions of refugees and internally displaced people of the Darfur conflict.
