Renowned young pianist Adam Golka resumes his "Beethoven Project"

Golka's "Beethoven Project" continues through the fall

At age 19, when most young people are barely in college or beginning a job, recent TCU Artist Diploma graduate Adam Golka is spending the year performing Ludwig van Beethoven's 32 Piano Sonatas at nine free, public concerts in Fort Worth.

The series, sponsored by the TCU School of Music, began last spring with the first four recitals. The remaining five are scheduled this fall, beginning Labor Day Weekend. All are on Sunday afternoons at 2:30 p.m. in Ed Landreth Auditorium on the TCU campus. (Golka is presenting the sonatas in the order Beethoven composed them, beginning in 1795.) Details for the upcoming concert dates are:

A first-generation American, Golka is the son of musicians who fled Communist-controlled Poland in the 1980s in search of a better life. He attended public school in Katy, TX, until eighth grade when his family opted for home-schooling. At 15, he moved to Fort Worth to study in TCU's Artist Diploma Program under José Feghali, noted Brazilian-born pianist and gold medal winner of the 1985 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition.

Golka already has nearly 150 concerto performances behind him, including well-reviewed appearances with the Houston, Dallas, San Diego and Fort Worth symphonies, the Shanghai Philharmonic and Sinfonia Varsovia.  His international career began at age 16 when he won the gold medal at the 2nd China Shanghai International Piano Competition. He also took the "audience favorite" award after his final-round performance of Rachmaninoff's Third Piano Concerto.
