TCU Board of Trustees sets tuition rate for 2006 - 07 academic year
Fort Worth, TX
2/7/2006
TCU's Board of Trustees approved an eight percent increase in tuition and fees for the 2006 - 07 academic year at its winter board meeting. New and returning full-time undergraduate students taking between 12 – 18 hours will pay a combined tuition and fee of $22,980 from the current $21,280.
"TCU continues to offer an excellent education in a personalized setting," said TCU Chancellor Victor J. Boschini, Jr. "This increase, while keeping us comparable in tuition and fees to other private universities, will enable us to proceed implementing goals from Vision in Action which include creating a dynamic learning environment where students' individual strengths are developed by a challenging core curriculum and imparted by faculty who mentor and teach."
The Trustees also approved an eight percent increase in financial aid proportionate to the tuition increase. Additionally, the Board agreed to raise room and board rates an average of five percent. The increase will position TCU among the national average price for room and board rates at private universities.
In other business, Chancellor Boschini reported to the Board that applications to the university have increased to 7,519 compared to 7,211 received at this time last year, an increase of almost five percent. Additionally, TCU has received 2,115 applications from students of color, a 28 percent increase from this time last year.
Chancellor Boschini also informed the Trustees that TCU's retention efforts continue to build upon strong retention numbers from previous years. Currently, 84 percent of last year's freshmen returned for their sophomore year and 91 percent of Honors Program students returned. Ninety-four percent of this year's fall freshmen returned for the spring semester.
The next Trustees’ meeting is scheduled for April.
