Department of Sociology and Anthropology presents Dr. Laura Hobgood-Oster on Sept 24

Fort Worth, TX September 11, 2013

The AddRan Department of Sociology and Anthropology presents the Cecil H. and Ida Green Honors Chair speaker, Dr. Laura Hobgood-Oster.

"Becoming Human and Dog Together: Exploring the Human-Canine Bond through Time"

Tuesday, September 24

Palko Hall, Room 130

FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC

Dr. Laura Hobgood-Oster will explore the history of the complex, cross-species, mutually beneficial relationship between dogs and humans. For thousands of years, these two species have walked side-by-side and, she argues, they have shaped each others' journeys in such powerful ways that it is hard to imagine humans without canines. Drawing on ancient evidence of dogs as spiritual guides, guardians, active participants in the enterprise of domestications, and more, Dr. Hobgood-Oster suggests that humans need to rethink how we--and dogs--became who we are.
