The event’s proceeds will benefit the LCpl. Benjamin Whetstone Schmidt Professorship in History. Schmidt was a Marine Scout Sniper who planned to return to TCU after his deployment and become a history professor. Sadly, he was killed in Afghanistan at the age of 24. Schmidt generously left $200,000 of his life insurance policy to TCU’s history department. The gift was established as a memorial scholarship fund. Now, his father and stepmother are working to supplement Schmidt’s lasting gift by establishing a fund they hope will grow to become an endowed professorship in history.
Faculty presentations will include:
• Dr. Gregg Cantrell – “Populism: What it means, where it came from, why we should care”
• Dr. Carrie Currier – “Paper Tiger or Fire Breathing Dragon? The hidden story behind China’s modernization”
