TCU education professor Dr. Janet Kelly produced the education resource guide that will be used for documentary film Ride Around the World (RATW), premiering at the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History's Omni Theater on Friday, May 27. The film runs through Oct. 1.

RATW covers the global journey of the cowboy - stretching back 1,500 years. Filmed in exotic locations and rarely visited locations - from Morocco, Spain, Argentina, Chile, Mexico, Canada and the U.S. - RATW includes extensive horse and ranching footage and a global historical perspective.

Kelly had wanted to get into developing educational guides for movies for some time. "The Fort Worth Museum of Science and History knew that I wanted to get into developing curriculum materials for educational movies," said Kelly. "Earlier this year, the film distribution company contacted the Museum about a referral on someone to do the educator's guide. It's been very exciting and everyone has been great to work with on this project."

Dr. Kelly's Educator Resource Guide was prepared as web-based supplementary material for RATW for the elementary and middle school audience. The content and 49 associated activities align with national social studies standards. Included in this are across-curriculum materials developed in the areas of science, math, and English/language arts. It is a user-friendly guide that is intended as exactly that-a resource to enhance and enrich the movie experience and promote an interest in the topic of global cowboys from many different and versatile perspectives.

Dr. Kelly is an associate professor and Director of the Institute of Mathematics, Science, and Technology Education at TCU. She has been involved in curriculum development and professional training for the last 12 years.
