TCU’s Dale Young has been selected 2006 recipient of the Excellence in Education Award given by the TCU School of Education Alumni Association. The 13th annual award program and reception is set for 4:30 p.m. April 27 at the Dee J. Kelly Alumni & Visitors Center on the TCU campus.
“I love TCU so much and what it gave me in my profession, so I am very, very excited and very, very happy about this honor,” said Young. “It is one way of knowing what I have been doing for the last 38 years was what I was supposed to be doing.”
“Dale is a very warm, approachable individual, who is highly regarded and well respected among all of his friends and professional colleagues,” said Stetson, TCU education professor and Young’s nominator for the award. “I am constantly amazed by the lives he has influenced and the contributions he has made to education and to TCU through his remarkable leadership over the past forty years.”
Young was a teacher at Wedgwood Middle School in Fort Worth for 10 years and pursued further academic training in educational media before joining the TCU School of Education, where he has served as director of student teaching and career Services for the past 21 years.
“Dale Young is a most valuable member of the School of Education,” says Dr. Sam Deitz, the school’s dean. “He makes sure that our students have excellent placements for their field work, and that they obtain wonderful employment upon graduation.”
Young received his Bachelor of Science degree in secondary education from TCU in 1966, and he received his Masters degree in school administration from TCU in 1968. He has been a member of several professional organizations including the National Education Association and the Texas Association for Employment Educators and has received numerous honors and awards throughout his career.
