TCU will host a screening of the documentary “Invisible Children” on Wednesday, Feb. 22 at 6 p.m. in the Brown -Lupton Student Center ballroom. The screening is free and open to the public.

Invisible Children is a non-profit organization whose mission is to promote awareness in society, call society to action and send aid to the children in Africa. The “Invisible Children Suburban Safari” is a group of students who travel in an RV, followed by trailers of other people, and tour North America showing the documentary “Invisible Children” to various groups to promote awareness about the subject.

The “Invisible Children” documentary began in spring of 2003. Three California college students went to Africa to film a documentary. At the beginning, the students did not know what they would be filming, but they bought camera equipment on eBay and set off to find a story. In Kenya, the students found that African children were being abducted in the middle of the night by the LRA (a group trying to overthrow the African government) and forced into militia groups to fight in battle. The students did a documentary on the abductions and planned to bring social awareness to America.

Following the screening, members of the Invisible Children organization will discuss the problem further and inform the audience of ways they can help promote awareness and send aid.

The screening is sponsored by The TCU Sociology Society, TCU Department of Social Work, Student Development Services -Leadership Center and the Chancellor’s Leadership program.
