This semester, TCU students enrolled in a sustainability course taught by Keith Whitworth, Ph.D., are participating in a Rain Harvesting Project in partnership with a community organization. On Oct. 18, students constructed rain barrels in the Campus Commons to be given to families participating in the Northside Inter-Church Agency (NICA) Gardening Project. On Dec. 4, students will install the rain barrels at the clients’ residences. According to Claire Taussig, a member of the Barrel Buddies group within Whitworth’s class, these students are also in the process of creating a research project proposal to measure the amount of rain collected and the amount used to water the garden over a 12-month period.
