In 1998, the College of Communication’s Film, TV, Digital Media department (FTDM) began its Thursday Night Movies series. The series features movies based on requests from attendees, although recently the series has shown Hollywood classics from the 1930s-1960s. Movies are featured on most Thursdays during the semester in Moudy Building South at 7 p.m. Admission to all films is free. 11/4 COVER GIRL (1944)
Her ambition to be a magazine "cover girl" comes between Rusty Parker (Rita Hayworth) and her dance partner Danny McGuire (Gene Kelly), but he resolves not to stand in her way. But will success without Danny make her happy?
11/11 FROM HERE TO ETERNITY (1953)
This adaptation of James Jones' acclaimed novel depicts life on an army base just prior to the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. Private Prewitt (Montgomery Clift) is pressured by the regiment's officers to fight even though he has given up boxing . . . hot-headed Private Maggio (Frank Sinatra) makes an enemy of the sergeant who runs the stockade . . . and Sergeant Warden (Burt Lancaster), who usually plays it safe, begins an affair with the Captain's wife (Deborah Kerr).
11/18 THE SHOP AROUND THE CORNER (1940)
Shop clerk James Stewart feuds constantly with newly-hired Margaret Sullavan, not realizing that she is the "Dear Friend" whose anonymous newspaper ad he answered and with whom he is falling in love via a series of romantic letters.
