Schieffer semester in Washington, D.C.

The first group of students selected to participate in the Schieffer School of Journalism's Washington, D.C. internship program recently visited the CBS News Face the Nation set and posed with moderator and 1959 TCU graduate Bob Schieffer.

Junior or senior Schieffer School students interested in the Washington D.C. internship program apply and then are selected to spend a semester learning and working in the nation's capital.

The central experience is a virtually full-time internship at a news or strategic communication organization in Washington D.C. Internships include working at the CBS Washington bureau or a strategic communication assignment with a major Washington think-tank. Students work four days a week and their body of work is assessed for a grade.  The internship is co-supervised by the employer and a professor from TCU, who visits students in Washington during the semester.

Students who haven’t received other internship credit at TCU can earn six hours for the internship.  Students can earn another three hours in a concentrated elective two-week course at the beginning of the semester on Media in Washington. This orientation is required for the program.  By taking courses in the fall catalog of The Washington Center, students can earn another three to nine hours (a maximum of 18 hours) toward their TCU degrees.

Students live in the residential facilities of The Washington Center near Union Station. There is no difference in tuition for this program than what would typically be incurred on campus.
