"Frogs for the Cure" activities set around Oct. 16 football game

Fort Worth, TX

9/28/2010

TCU hosts the 6th annual “Frogs for the Cure” event Saturday, Oct. 16, 2010 at 3 p.m. at Amon G. Carter Stadium during the TCU vs. BYU football game. This six-year partnership raises money for Susan G. Komen for the Cure and raises awareness about breast cancer and the search for a cure.

This year’s annual halftime production will feature a music video, “We Fight Back,” by TCU alumnus, singer and songwriter Tim Halperin. More than 1,200 breast cancer survivors, students, faculty and staff members will participate in the halftime celebration of survivorship. Additionally, Halperin and his label will donate at least 70 cents of each download of “We Fight Back” to Komen, available on iTunes starting Oct. 5.

Leading up to the football game, TCU Student Trainers Association, members of Zeta Tau Alpha, and students from PR for the Cure will be “flocking” yards in Fort Worth with pink flamingos, in an effort to raise donations toward Susan G. Komen. A Breast Cancer Awareness luncheon for TCU faculty and staff was held on Oct. 5. Following the “Frogs for the Cure” football game, Halperin will perform in a free concert for students in Frog Alley on campus.

Breast cancer survivors are invited to a pre-game event sponsored by Komen and TCU. The TCU Athletics Department provides free game tickets to breast cancer survivors and invites them onto the field to greet the team at the start of the game. T-shirts designed for the event feature the words of breast cancer survivors and are on sale, in adult and children’s sizes, at the TCU Bookstore. A portion of the proceeds from both T-shirt and game day ticket sales will benefit Komen.
