Marketing professor Robert P. Leone earns 2010 Churchill Lifetime Achievement Award

The Marketing Research Special Interest Group of the American Marketing Association (AMA) announces that Dr. Robert P. Leone of the Neeley School of Business at TCU is the 2010 Churchill Award winner. The Churchill Award for lifetime achievement in the academic study of marketing research is given each year by the AMA Market Research Special Interest Group to an outstanding research scholar at an award ceremony and reception at the American Marketing Association Summer Educators’ Conference, held this year in Boston.

Dr. Leone is the J. Vaughn and Evelyne H. Wilson Chair and Professor of Marketing at the Neeley School. His research contributions span many dimensions: significant advances in proposing research methods to model sales-advertising relationship, significant modeling efforts to study competition across brands and stores, advancing new methods for product positioning, significant contributions to modeling customer buying behavior in the CRM area and extensive research contributions in the area of brand management.

Dr. Leone has published 39 scholarly articles in the area of marketing research including publications in premier journals in marketing including the Marketing Science, the JASA, Operations Research, Management Science, the Journal of Marketing Research, the Journal of Marketing, and the Harvard Business Review and co-authored a leading book on Marketing Research. His research work has been cited more than 1,600 times by his peers.

Dr. Leone has also contributed significantly to the practice of marketing research, working closely with several companies including Sears, Victoria’s Secret, Alliance Data Systems, Kodak and P&G to implement the marketing research methods he has developed over the years.

Leone’s numerous awards include “Marketer of the Year” presented by the Columbus Chapter of the American Marketing Association, 1997; Maynard Award for Outstanding Article in Marketing Theory 1981; runner-up for the 1988 William O’Dell Award for the most impactful paper, Outstanding Contribution to Marketing in the Southwest Awards from the Southwestern Marketing Association at the Annual Conference in 1981, 1982, 1985, 1988, and 1989. In addition, he was the recipient of the Zale Corporation Centennial Fellowship in Retail Merchandising, 1986-88, and the Jon Newton Centennial Fellowship, IC2 Institute, 1984-1986. Southwestern Marketing Association established in his honor the “Robert P. Leone Best Student Paper Award” to be given to the best student paper accepted at the SWMA Annual Conference.

Dr. Leone serves currently as the Co-Editor of the Journal of Marketing. He also serves on the editorial review boards of the Journal of Marketing, Marketing Science, and the Journal of Advertising. He also co-chaired the 2010 AMA Sheth Doctoral Consortium, held at TCU in June.

The Churchill Award is in honor of Dr. Gilbert A. Churchill, a Emeritus Professor of Marketing at the University of Wisconsin – Madison.
