TCU's fund-raising campaign exceeds $250 million goal; Scholarships will be the focus of the campaign's two remaining years

The Campaign for TCU, Texas Christian University’s comprehensive fund-raising effort, has exceeded its $250 million goal. In spite of a lagging economy, the university passed this milestone two years before the campaign’s 2012 conclusion. Gifts and pledges now total $267.6 million.

“There is much to celebrate,” said TCU trustee and campaign chair Matthew K. Rose, CEO of BNSF Railway.

“The generous gifts and pledges of more than 31,000 donors have enabled the university to build outstanding facilities, make significant additions to the endowment, develop academic programs such as the John V. Roach Honors College and the Andrews Institute of Mathematics & Science Education, and much more.”

“The remarkable support of Horned Frog alumni and other friends is enabling us to realize TCU’s vision of creating a world-class, values-centered university experience,” said Chancellor Victor J. Boschini, Jr.

“However, we cannot rest on these accomplishments. As the campaign has progressed, additional challenges and opportunities have arisen. For example, the need for scholarship funds has grown significantly as the economic downturn has affected many of our families. In response, the university has adopted an aggressive scholarship initiative with a goal of $100 million.”

Donors have committed $51 million for academic programs and faculty support, including 12 endowed chairs and professorships. About $41 million has been raised for scholarship endowment, including the Bob Bolen Leadership Scholars program created by The Sarah & Ross Perot, Jr., Foundation. A total of more than $32 million has been directed to the Annual Fund, which supports the university’s mission through general scholarships and academic programs.

The Campaign for TCU is also helping to underwrite a campus transformation with facilities such as the J.E and L.E. Mabee Foundation Education Complex with Betsy and Steve Palko Hall; Clarence and Kerry Scharbauer Hall, another new academic facility; the Schieffer School of Journalism Convergence Center; the Brown-Lupton University Union; four residence halls in the new Campus Commons: Amon G. Carter Hall, Teresa and Luther King Hall, Mary and Robert J. Wright Hall and Kellye Wright Samuelson Hall; the Sam Baugh Indoor Practice Facility and Cox Field; and the Meyer-Martin Athletic Complex. Construction on the Mary Wright Admission Center and the Jane Justin Field House are under way. The total committed for facilities is about $133 million.

In addition, $11 million has been raised for other priorities.

During the remaining two years of the campaign, TCU will continue to raise funds for scholarships, academic programs and renovation of Amon G. Carter Stadium, among other initiatives.
