Mayor Moncrief declares January 4 "Go Purple" Day

On January 4, the TCU Horned Frogs will take the field for their final game of the season in a heavy-weight “Showdown in the Desert” with Boise State in the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl.

“This is a big deal, Fort Worth,” said Mayor Mike Moncrief. “TCU’s success on the football field translates to priceless national exposure for the university and our great city. With this important game in mind, I call on our city to ‘Go Purple’ on January 4 in support of Coach Gary Patterson and his team.”

Fort Worth City Manager Dale Fisseler agreed to allow city employees to participate in “Go Purple Day,” and Moncrief urged local employers large and small alike to do the same.

“Whether you’re working, running errands, catching up on chores or just taking it easy—whatever the case, wear your purple on January 4,” Moncrief said. “Let’s show this team just how proud we are of their historic run!”

With the dominant win against New Mexico, the Frogs ended the season 12-0 for the first time in team history. Confident of TCU remaining undefeated, Moncrief has agreed to a friendly wager with David Bieter, Mayor of Boise, over the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl game. If Boise State wins, Moncrief will wear a Boise State University Broncos jersey and cap to the next Fort Worth City Council meeting. If TCU wins, Mayor Bieter will wear a purple Horned Frogs jersey and cap to his next Council meeting.

The Tostitos Fiesta Bowl will be aired from Glendale, Ariz. beginning at 7 p.m. cst on FOX 4.
