MBA teams from seven Texas universities competed in the NAIOP Texas Shoot-Out Real Estate Competition in Dallas on April 2, and the TCU team of Amber Cancel, Aaron Duncan, Ryan Johnson, Jack Parker and Ben Wyatt won first prize of $10,000. Other teams represented Rice, University of Texas, SMU, Texas A&M, Baylor and Texas Tech.“The event was a tremendous opportunity for us to showcase our team's comprehensive real estate knowledge, our balance of design/planning and financial/marketing, and see where the TCU MBA program stands against other Texas MBA programs,” said Aaron Duncan MBA’10.
The team from the Neeley School of Business at TCU spent a week working on the case, which put them in the role of developers who, using qualitative and quantitative rationale, had to report on which one of three given scenarios they were choosing and why. A panel of 10 real estate executives from top Metroplex real estate firms judged the teams’ solutions to the case presented by LYNOUS Talent Management.
Greg Fuller, president of NAIOP North Texas, said that the event’s goal is to bring the North Texas real estate community closer to the universities’ real estate centers. “This competition has been a huge success as the teams attempt to solve real-world commercial real estate challenges and present their solutions,” he said.
The event was sponsored by PlainsCapital Bank. NAIOP North Texas is a chapter of NAIOP, the Commercial Real Estate Development Association for developers, owners and related professionals in office, industrial and mixed-use real estate.
