Rolando Guerrero, senior ad/PR student at TCU, received the bronze award for best student direct marketing piece from the The American Advertising Federation of Fort Worth’s 2008 ADDY Awards on Saturday, Feb. 28 at 7 p.m. at the Ashton Depot in Fort Worth. The award, the only given in that category, was for an invitation that Guerrero created for the National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame’s annual “Heart of the West” art show. The invitation was part of an overall campaign created by RealWorld IMC, the student-led advertising agency at TCU.
The annual competition awards professionals and students for innovative advertising designs and ideas. It is the largest advertising competition in the nation attracting over 60,000 entries every year. The ADDY Awards is the only competition that has three levels of judging, including local, regional, and national. The award show is attended by the top advertising agencies in town, including Concussion, Balcom Agency, and Rassai Interactive. RealWorld IMC was a sponsor of the evening’s event, having volunteered PR, videos and manpower.
This is the second year that RealWorld IMC has won an ADDY Award award for its efforts. Last year, Heather Tansill, a senior intern at RealWorld IMC, received the Silver award for the Student ADDY Category of Mixed Media Campaign and a Student Special Judges Award for the Best Viral [Marketing] Campaign. The awards were given for the SafeHaven “Know the Red Flags” campaign on the TCU campus in October, 2007.
Other TCU students also walked away with awards: Ronald Villegas won two golds, one silver and a bronze; Bethany Sexton won one silver and a bronze award, including the student special judges award; Raef Payne won one gold; and Elisa Guerrero won gold.
