Institute of Child Development receives $2 million grant

Texas Christian University’s Institute of Child Development has received a $2 million grant from The Rees-Jones Foundation.

Dr. Karyn Purvis, director of the Institute of Child Development, said the grant will be used to hire additional staff and develop training tools for families with children who are developmentally challenged due to trauma and professionals serving these children throughout the United States. A DVD series, “Healing Families” will be produced and distributed to families and professionals across Texas and the US.

“This gift from The Rees-Jones Foundation is absolute life giving for us. It’s going to empower us to reach tens of thousands of at-risk children and their families,” Purvis said.

Purvis said the gift will allow the ICD to not only enrich the lives of underserved people around the country, but it will enrich the classroom experience for TCU students.

The Institute of Child Development (ICD) was established in 2005 as a Vision-In-Action initiative supported by Chancellor Boschini at Texas Christian University. It is a part of the Center for Applied Psychology, within the College of Science and Engineering.
