Environmental science and geology professors present at inaugural joint conference

Four TCU professors and researchers will be presenting at the 2008 Joint Annual Meeting of the Geological Society of America, Soil Science Society of America, American Society of Agronomy, Crop Science Society of America, and the Gulf Coast Association of Geological Societies in Houston, Texas, October 5-9.Michael Slattery of the department of environmental science and Brian Atwell, Helge Alsleben, and Sarah Madsen of the department of geology will join 10,000 scientists a the first-ever joint meeting of the scientific societies. The meeting, held at the George R. Brown Convention Center, will celebrate the International Year of Planet Earth.
Slattery will present his findings on quantifying sedimentation rates in the Trinity River Delta, Texas. Atwell will discuss the Gray Sandstone series in Cotton Valley field in northern Louisiana. Alsleben will present estimates of strain rates and strain-related crustal thickening in Baja California, Mexico. Madsen will present findings from a geomorphic mapping and ground-penetrating radar survey of the western segment of the Agua Blanca Fault in Baja California, Mexico.
