Residence Hall Move-in Information

Fort Worth, TX

7/15/2008

The Campus Commons project continues transforming the center of campus to become a more residential and pedestrian-friendly campus. With the completion of the Campus Commons, parking near most of the residence halls is relatively limited.  The Office of Residential Services has developed a plan that will facilitate an easy move-in day experience for you.  We ask that you please be patient with us as we welcome 1,650 new Horned Frogs.  By following the instructions below, you will help ensure a smooth process with minimal wait times.  The Texas heat can be extreme this time of year, so please take all precautions to keep cool and hydrated during your move-in.

Move-In Dates:

August 18 – For students participating in Sorority recruitment
August 20 – For all other Freshmen
*Note: due to Frog Camp, Orientation and some other programs, there may be some exceptions to stated move-in dates. If this impacts you, you will receive further information once housing assignments are completed.

Move-In Times:

LAST names beginning with J – Q            8:30 am – 11 am
LAST names beginning with A – I             11 am – 2 pm
LAST names beginning with R – Z            2 pm - 5 pm

Check-in instructions:
  • All students on August 18 and 20 will check in at the Dee J. Kelly Alumni and Visitors Center, located on Stadium Drive, next to the Daniel Meyer Coliseum.
  • Students should proceed to the Cox Ballroom where they will be greeted by their new residence hall staff. To allow for a quick check in, we ask that parents relax and enjoy refreshments while students check in.
  • Parents – please feel free to get a drink, or sit and relax in the foyer while your son/daughter gets his/her key and other check-in materials.
  • After checking in, families will be directed to the move-in coordinator who will notify you when the unloading zone close to the building becomes available.
  • If immediate unloading is available you will be directed to your hall to unload.

Parking instructions:

  • When you arrive on campus proceed to the Kelly Center parking lot.   Cars will be sent to the unloading areas from this lot only between the hours of 8:30 am and 5 pm.
  • Once parked, you will be issued a dashboard-parking tag.  This parking tag will allow you to enter the unloading area for each hall. Without it, your car will not be allowed to enter the unloading area.
  • TCU staff and volunteers will notify you when to leave the holding lot to go to your hall to unload.  We anticipate short wait times, but we ask you to please be patient as you wait for your opportunity to unload.
  • You will proceed to the unloading area once space is available and unload your belongings onto the sidewalk or lawn area outside your hall.  Volunteers will be available to assist you between 8:30 am -5 pm.
  • We ask that you please make an effort to use only ONE vehicle during move-in.

Unloading instructions:

  • Unload EVERYTHING from your vehicle and place it on the curb by your residence hall.
  • TCU volunteers will help unload belongings between 8:30 am – 5 pm.
  • Once all the items are unloaded, please move the car back to a parking lot as directed by TCU Police/or the TCU housing staff.
  • It is advisable to pack your belongings as if you will have to carry them to your room.
  • Vehicles will not be allowed at the unloading zone for more than 15 minutes.  Unaccompanied vehicles violate the FIRE CODE and will be subject to ticketing and towing. Someone from your party must stay with your vehicle in the unloading zone the entire time it is there.
  • If you are traveling alone, we will assist you.

If you have questions about this or any other aspect regarding move-in, please contact Residential Services at housing@tcu.edu or 817-257-7865.

We look forward to seeing you.  Have a safe trip!
WELCOME TO TEXAS CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY!
