Students in the Schieffer School of Journalism’s campaigns team class last week won the National Student Advertising Competition (NSAC) for the 10th regional district. The students designed the winning campaign for the Coca-Cola Company, which had challenged students nationwide to develop an integrated marketing campaign to reposition Coca-Cola Classic among 13-24 year olds.
The NSAC, which is part of the American Advertising Federation, is billed as the college world series of advertising and one of the toughest academic competitions in the country. More than 4,000 college students take part in the competition to develop integrated communication campaigns for big name companies like Toyota Motor Sales, USA, RadioShack, and Yahoo! The TCU team, which last year finished third in the region, designed the winning integrated marketing campaign for Coca Cola that utilized target market selection.
“If you ever want to win a campaign, this is the one you want to win,” said Mike Wood, instructor for the Schieffer School of Journalism’s campaigns team class. “Coke is the number one global brand, so winning this campaign means a lot of visibility for the students and TCU.”
Because of the upcoming national competition, Wood could not reveal details about the winning regional campaign. The students will travel to Louisville, Ky to compete in the national competition June 7-8. Other universities competing in the regional contest include Texas Tech, the University of Texas at Austin, Southern Methodist University and the University of Oklahoma.
