The U.S. Air Force appointed Col. Robert Kelsey, TCU School of Nurse Anesthesia instructor and human laboratory patient coordinator, to deputy commander of the 701st Medical Squadron at Naval Air Station, Joint Reserve Base in Fort Worth.
Kelsey’s appointment promotes him to second in command in terms of authority and responsibility for the 701st Medical Squadron. With this position he will be involved in the administration of the 250-member squadron and in the absence of the commander, would step up to his position.
“Since this squadron is quite large there will be quite a bit to do in terms of planning for future training, budgeting and the overall running of the squadron,” Kelsey said.
Previously, Kelsey served as a nurse anesthetist at Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls. The new appointment brings him back to the 701st Medical Squadron where he formerly served as the chief nurse for six years.
In TCU’s School of Nurse Anesthesia, Kelsey coordinates the Human Patient Simulator (HPS), a computer-model-driven, full-sized mannequin that gives students a true life experience in true-to-life scenarios that can be changed to the specific goal of the instructor. Prior to working in education, he spent many years working with several medical centers.
“I teach hands-on skills the students will need as they prepare for their clinical education in this field,” Kelsey said.
Kelsey earned a Master in Liberal Arts and a Bachelor of Music Education from TCU. He is a graduate of the Air Force Squadron Officer School, Air Command and Staff College and the Air War College.
