Middle East peace was focus of Oct. 24 lecture

Ambassador Dennis Ross, director of The Washington Institute for Near East Policy and a State Department specialist under Presidents George H.W. Bush and Bill Clinton, spoke Tuesday Oct. 24 in Ed Landreth Auditorium on the TCU campus. He was guest of honor for the ninth annual Gates of Chai Lectureship in Contemporary Judaism, sponsored by the Program in Jewish Studies at TCU and Brite Divinity School. Topic of his lecture was “Facilitating Peace in the Middle East.”

Ambassador Ross is known for his eloquent explanation of the complex world of Middle Eastern policy and the crucial role it will play in America’s future. Ambassador Ross’ book, The Missing Peace — The Inside Story of the Fight for Middle East Peace, was published in 2004.  He is also a foreign affairs analyst for the Fox News Channel and a frequent commentator in The Washington Post, The Financial Times and U.S. News and World Report.

The Gates of Chai Lectureship is designed to promote informed, dynamic public dialogue and education on issues of relevance to contemporary Judaism. The lectureship is sponsored through the generosity of Gates of Chai, Inc., in memory of Larry Kornbleet and family members of Stanley and Marcia Kornbleet Kurtz who perished in the Holocaust.

Previous Gates of Chai speakers include Nobel Peace Laureate Elie Wiesel, legal/political activists Morris Dees and Susan Estrich, and authors Thomas Cahill, Harold Kushner, Chaim Potok and Bruce Feiler.
