Fort Worth, TX
2/11/2006
The former Ambassador to Iraq, L. Paul Bremer, III, will speak at 5:30 p.m., Friday Jan. 27 in TCU’s Ed Landreth Auditorium. Registration for the event begins at 5 p.m. Bremer, who has recently written a book on his experiences in Iraq, will describe his role as an administrator of the U.S.-led occupation government and give his perspective on the controversy surrounding the struggle in Iraq. The World Affairs Council of Dallas/Fort Worth is organizing the event in partnership with TCU.
“Bremer will provide insight about what is going on today in Iraq,” said Travis Kelly, director of programs for World Affairs Council of Dallas/Fort Worth. Bremer was in charge during one of the most violent and controversial periods, and he will share his point of view about the events and decisions, Kelly said.
Arriving in Iraq just after the fall of Saddam Hussein, Bremer was responsible for rebuilding the country and controlling violence until the handover of political power June 28. While in Iraq, Bremer, who was named May 6, 2003 by President George W. Bush as Presidential Envoy to Iraq, urged Administration officials to send more troops and resources to end looting and lawlessness. He also worked to draft a constitution that secured individual rights and recognized the interests of all sides.
In addition to speaking, Bremer also will sign his book, My Year in Iraq: The Struggle to Build a Future of Hope. The book was released Jan. 10 and will be available for purchase at the event.
Cost to attend the event is $20. For more information, call the World Affairs Council of Greater Dallas at 214-965-8400 or go to http://www.dallasworld.org/ for event registration information.
