TCU Symphony and its conductor win a "GRAMMY" in Argentina

Fort Worth, TX

12/2/2011

Germán Gutiérrez, director of orchestral studies at TCU and conductor of the TCU Symphony Orchestra, has received word that he and the group have won the equivalent of a Grammy Award in Argentina. They were awarded the prestigious Carlos Gardel Music Award for their CD "TCU Symphony/Opus Cuatro" in the category "Best Alternative Folklore Album." The announcement was made Nov. 30 in Buenos Aires.

The recording sessions were done three years ago on the stage of Ed Landreth Auditorium on the TCU campus when the noted South American vocal quartet Opus Cuatro was in Fort Worth. According to Gutiérrez, all parties agreed to waive their own costs in order to produce a CD that each could use in whatever way they saw fit.

“Our concept was to showcase our 75-member orchestra by wrapping Opus Cuatro’s Latin American folk music in a very elegant setting,” Gutiérrez explains.

The CD album design was created by Allie Regan, graphic designer in the TCU Publications office.
