Growing the number of Fulbright recipients at TCU

Two recent TCU graduates have been awarded Fulbright Scholarships from the U.S. Department of State to serve as English Teaching Assistants for the coming year.

 

Andrea Edmundson, a Houston native, graduated from TCU in May with an English degree and as an Honors Laureate in the John V. Roach Honors College. She will serve approximately 10 months in Malaysia, beginning January 2012.

 

Paige Miller, a native of Anna, TX, graduated in May with a double-major in Spanish and English and as an Honors Laureate in the John V. Roach Honors College. Starting in September, she will teach English in Spain.

 

Two other recent TCU graduates, Class of 2010, were awarded Fulbright Scholarships last year. Christina Durano, a Broadcast Journalism major from Albuquerque, N.M., researched media and social change in the Phillippines.  Kathleen Perley, a Speech Language Pathology major from Houston, taught in Spain.

 

The Fulbright Program, established in 1946 and funded by the U.S. Department of State, is designed to foster understanding between the United States and other countries. The U.S. Student Fulbright program gives recent graduates, graduate students and young professionals the opportunity to conduct research, study or teach in one of the 155 countries that the program operates.

 

The Fulbright Program is the flagship international education program sponsored by the U.S. government. About 8,000 grants are awarded annually, and about 1,600 of those grants are awarded to U.S. students.
