TCU student journalists win 18 awards

The TCU Daily Skiff, TCU News Now, DailySkiff.com and 11 of their student journalists have received 18 Mark of Excellence awards from the Society of Professional Journalists for student news media coverage in Texas and Oklahoma. The honorees were awarded certificates April 9 during the Region 8 SPJ Spring Conference held at the University of Oklahoma in Norman, Okla.
Four TCU student journalists won first place in the MOE contest, which received nearly 4,000 entries for content produced in 2010, and will advance to the national round of judging. The regional winners include Skiff photo editor Matt Coffelt (photo illustration), Skiff columnist Christina Aldridge (general column writing), News Now reporter Maddie Foxx (TV in-depth reporting), and News Now reporter Kim Little (TV feature photography). National winners will be announced in early May.
The Daily Skiff was awarded third place in the best all-around daily student newspaper category; News Now was named third in the best all-around television newscast division and DailySkiff.com was third in the best affiliated website category.

- Kayla Mezzell, second place, general news reporting, daily newspapers
- Katie Love, second place, online news reporting
- Courtney Jay, second place, television in-depth reporting
- Matt Coffelt, third place, general news photography, daily newspapers
- Julie Susman, third place, breaking news photography, daily newspapers
- Caroline Hardwick, third place, feature photography, daily newspapers
- Chance Welch, third place, photo illustration daily newspapers
