Jaimi Kessel, a senior graphic design major at TCU, has created a plate design that will soon be featured in Pier 1 Imports retail stores. Place settings are expected to be on display by July. Kessel designed the plates while working as an intern in the Trend and Brand Packaging department of Pier 1 last summer.

The design was created from a color palette selected by the company. "I thought it was very interesting that most of the work done at Pier 1 in July is for Christmas two years away," Kessel said. The color palettes for designs are created one to one-and-a-half years before the designs are seen in stores.

Kessel said the fashion industry has a big influence on trends and color palettes in home décor. "If you have a favorite shirt right now, you may want to start looking for a tablecloth in the same color, because that is what will be popular in home fashions next year."
