New director for Neeley Master of Accounting Program

Jerry Turner has joined the Neeley School of Business at TCU as Director of the Master of Accounting (MAc) Program and Professor of Professional Practice in Accounting.

Dr. Turner most recently was Professor of Accountancy at the graduate and doctoral level at the Fogelman College of Business and Economics at the University of Memphis. He also has taught at Florida International University and the University of Colorado at Denver. He holds a PhD in Accounting from Texas A&M University.

The 30-hour TCU MAc program provides the courses necessary to complete the 150 hours of education required to sit for the CPA exam. It also prepares future leaders of the accounting profession with the skills necessary to adapt to a changing business climate. TCU MAc graduates consistently have some of the highest CPA pass rates in Texas, and career placement for TCU MAc students continues to be exceptional. Since 2006 virtually all graduates have received and accepted job offers prior to graduation.

Over the past decade, the TCU MAc program has earned recognition at both the state and national levels. These honors include recognition for accomplishments on the CPA exam, a student appointment to a highly competitive national fellowship, and recognition as a “key school” by two international accounting firms.

“It’s truly an honor to be associated with the TCU MAc program as we have outstanding students and a world-class faculty,” Turner said. “My goals include continuing to grow the program in size and quality, and for TCU MAc to be recognized as the premier master of accounting program in the nation. With the enthusiasm that is here and the support I see from the accounting department, Neeley administration, and our alumni, we’re already competitive with any program in the country. We want to be known as the best.”

Dr. Turner’s primary areas of interest are audit, IT auditing, internal auditing, and information systems. He has worked as a research engineer at Bell Helicopter, as an auditor with KPMG Peat Marwick, and was founder and president of his own company, The VideoTrip Corporation. He has published numerous articles and book chapters and has received outstanding teaching awards.
