Dunbar students learn about international business and foreign affairs

In partnership with the Fort Worth Chapter of The Links Inc., the Neeley School of Business at TCU will present L.I.F.E.: Linkages to International Business and Foreign Affairs Empowerment for Youth Program, on Friday and Saturday, April 30-May 1, for 25 students from Dunbar High School. Links is a 501C3 organization with 272 chapters nationally and more than 12,000 female members.

The L.I.F.E. program will introduce these high school freshmen to international business and professional careers. They will learn about world geography, international business and important foreign affairs issues, as well as skill building career planning, team building, time management and course mapping.

Speakers include O. Homer Erekson, John V. Roach Dean of the Neeley School of Business; Ralph Carter, professor of international politics; Andrew Schoolmaster, dean of the AddRan College of Liberal Arts; Kelly O’Brien, director of Neeley’s Center for Professional Communication; Komla Aggor, chair of the Department of Spanish and Hispanic Studies, and a panel that includes Ron Parker of PepsiCo, Brett Stanley of the World Affairs Council, and international TCU students.

“We hope to educate students on the many opportunities available internationally, educate them on the qualifications needed to pursue careers in international business and foreign affairs, and provide a strong mentor base,” said Elizabeth Doane, chair of the program. “I’m excited to partner with the Neeley School of Business at TCU and looking forward to meeting the students.”

The two-day program will include a tour of TCU and an international luncheon. The students are ninth graders with a minimum GPA of 2.5, with an interest in geography, business, languages or travel.
