As you look back on your years of education, did you ever once think about what your professors were doing with their time other than teaching you the periodic table of elements? Neither did I. Fortunately, TCU students and faculty now have the privilege to hear about the research that the TCU faculty from Harris College of Nursing & Health Sciences have completed.
The Harris College of Nursing & Health Sciences has hosted multiple faculty research symposiums this year, with the last one scheduled for April 6. The last symposium for the academic school year is from 3-4:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 6 in Smith 104B and is open to all students and faculty.
Presenters:
• Dr. Raul Prezas, communication sciences and disorders, "Phonological inventories of Spanish-speaking children"
• Dr. Debbie Rhea, kinesiology, “Is the color of my skin a protector or risk for an eating disorder?”
Dr. Debbie Rhea, originator of the program and associate dean of research for Harris College of Nursing & Health Sciences, decided to start the faculty research symposiums to highlight faculty members and their research findings.
Rhea said her idea for the program is two-fold, “to allow the faculty from each department to know what the other faculty has been up to as well as to bring in collaboration between the areas of study.”
Faculty members chosen to present research are given 45 minutes to introduce their research through a PowerPoint presentation. Following the presentation, students and faculty are given about 15 minutes for a question and answer section.
“This is the first year we have done this program and it will continue to get the word out about our faculty is doing because they are doing many great things,” Rhea said.
