Brite Divinity School at TCU to host annual Ministers Week Feb. 6 - 9

Brite Divinity School and TCU will host their annual Ministers Week Feb. 6 - 9, featuring lectures, sermons, workshops and worship services. Most events are held at University Christian Church, 2720 S. University Drive in Fort Worth.
Preacher and scholar Dr. Brian K. Blount, professor of New Testament at Princeton Theological Seminary, will deliver the Wells Sermons at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday in the UCC sanctuary. His primary work has been in the Gospel of Mark and in the area of cultural studies and hermeneutics. Dr. Blount’s newest book is Can I Get a Witness? Reading Revelation Through an African-American Lens.
Dr. Daisy L. Machado, dean at Lexington Theological Seminary in Kentucky, will deliver the Scott Lectures, set for 9 and 11 a.m. Tuesday in the same location. She was the first Latina ordained in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in 1981. A church historian, Dr. Machado taught at Brite from 1992-1996 and from 1999-2005 and was key to establishing its Borderlands Center for Latino/Latina Church Studies in 2001. She has also been adjunct faculty at Candler School of Theology, Emory University in Atlanta, and was the Luce visiting professor at Harvard Divinity School in spring 2003.
Dr. Sandra M. Schneiders will present the McFadin Lectures at 9 and 11 a.m. Wednesday in Fellowship Hall. She is professor of New Testament Studies and Christian Spirituality at the Jesuit School of Theology in the Graduate Theological Union, Berkeley, CA. She has taught there since 1976 and is the author of eight books on scripture, hermeneutics, Roman Catholic religious life and feminism in the church.
A highlight of the planned events will the Davis Workshop in Ministry conducted by Dr. George A. Mason, pastor of Wilshire Baptist Church in Dallas. The sessions are at 9 and 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Fellowship Hall. Dr. Mason is recognized for his innovative work in establishing programs for those considering ordained ministry as a vocation.
