Mayoral Proclamation

A PROCLAMATION:
Whereas, the TCU Horned Frog Football team and Coach Gary Patterson have carried the excitement and momentum from their 2008 Poinsettia Bowl victory into their 2009-2010 season with the inspired theme of “Won’t Back Down,” and;
Whereas, TCU won games in impressive fashion on the road against perennial football powers Virginia and Clemson, and;
Whereas, the Horned Frogs continued to dominate through October, including an exhilarating 38-7 victory over then-16th ranked Brigham Young University in front of a national television audience, and;
Whereas, the play of the Horned Frogs earned the interest of the college football world and created the opportunity to showcase TCU and the Fort Worth Spirit on ESPN’s College Gameday program, and;
Whereas, the Horned Frogs met the challenge presented by the defending Mountain West Conference and Sugar Bowl Champion Utah Utes with a resounding 55-28 victory in front of a sold-out Amon Carter Stadium, and;
Whereas, the TCU Horned Frog Football team rose to unprecedented heights in the Bowl Championship Series poll as the current #4 ranked team in the nation, and;
Whereas, the people of Fort Worth wish to show their tremendous pride in the Horned Frogs for being a shining ambassador of talent, hard work and dedication to the entire country in their quest to a Mountain West Championship and TCU’s first ever berth in a BCS bowl game.
Now Therefore Be It Resolved, that I, Mike Moncrief, Mayor of the City of Fort Worth, on behalf of the entire City Council, do hereby proclaim this stretch of the Trinity River to be renamed:
“Horned Frog River”
from this day until the end of the 2009-2010 TCU Football season. Truly, the “Purple Fever” runs through it: our city, our citizenry and our river!
This proclamation is adopted and effective this 27th day of November, 2009.
