TCU’s Institute of Child Development is one step closer to completing the Healing Families DVD series by releasing the second of nine installments titled Playful Interaction. Playful Interaction outlines the importance of play and provides practical examples of playful interaction from the Institute's Hope Connection Camp. The first DVD of the series, Healthy Touch, completed in 2008, explores research about touch and provides practical applications for adding healthy touch into one’s daily life. Both DVDs feature, Dr. Karyn Purvis, director of the Institute of Child Development and Dr. David Cross, associate director of the Institute of Child Development, along with other child development experts.
The DVDs will be used as a teaching tool in university classes and as a resource for families with children who are at-risk, or developmentally challenged due to trauma, and professionals who work with them. The Healing Families DVD series is made possible by grants the Institute has received from The Rees-Jones Foundation, Harold Simmons Foundation, Lesley Family Foundation, The Meadows Foundation, and The Mabel Peters Caruth Fund at Communities Foundation of Texas.
“This project is a source of great joy because it will enhance education in the classroom, promote outreach in the community; and will support the Institute of Child Development through DVD sales,” said Dr. Purvis.
