Texas Center for Community Journalism sponsors training workshop

Fort Worth, TX

9/21/2009

The Texas Center for Community Journalism is sponsoring a one-day workshop on Thursday, Oct. 29 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at TCU’s Brown-Lupton University Union.  This workshop will be aimed at showing newspapers how to sell ads online.  Chuck Nau, a veteran advertising consultant to community newspapers will teach the workshop. The cost is $10 per registrant.

Tommy Thomason, director of the Center, said that Nau “is the nation’s best-known presenter of advertising sales techniques for community newspapers.”

“The issue of how to monetize the Web editions of the newspaper is one of the most pressing for today’s community journalism,” Thomason said.  “We are bringing in the top expert on advertising sales to give community papers some practical ideas on how to attract advertisers who have never appeared in the online editions.”

Nau, who is from Seattle, will show workshop participants how they can seize marketing opportunities on the Internet, how to measure the popularity of their Web site, how to develop an online selling strategy, how to establish the value of their print and online editions, and how to sell advertising in difficult economic times.

The Texas Center for Community Journalism was established by TCU’s Schieffer School of Journalism.
