The Campaign for TCU tops $200 million

Fort Worth, TX

5/13/2009

TCU today announced that The Campaign for TCU, the University’s fund raising campaign, has passed the $200 million mark. The total goal of the campaign is $250 million.

“This is an amazing accomplishment,” said Matthew K. Rose, TCU board of trustee member and campaign chair. “We have raised 80 percent of the campaign goal to create a world-class, values-centered university experience — in spite of the ongoing recession,” said Rose who also is CEO of BNSF Railway. “Only 56 percent of the campaign time has elapsed.”

Not only does the campaign benefit TCU, but it also impacts the Fort Worth community.

“We are delighted to have such widespread support,” said TCU Chancellor Victor J. Boschini, Jr. “Some 27,495 contributors have made gifts or pledges to this campaign. Not only are their gifts improving the experience of TCU students, but many gifts are also serving the greater good. To give just two examples, the Andrews Institute for Mathematics, Science & Technology Education is improving the teaching of mathematics and science in our nation’s schools, while the Institute of Child Development is conducting important research to improve the lives of at-risk children and their families.”

Donors have committed more than $46 million for academic programs and faculty support. About $29 million has been directed toward endowed scholarships. Almost $25 million has been raised for the Annual Fund, which supports the university budget and further benefits scholarships and academic programs. Almost $8 million has been committed for other projects.

The Campaign for TCU is also helping to underwrite a campus transformation with facilities such as the Mabee Foundation Education Complex with Betsy and Steve Palko Hall; Clarence and Kerry Scharbauer Hall, a new academic facility; the Sam Baugh Indoor Practice Facility & Cox Field; the Brown-Lupton University Union; and four residence halls in the new Campus Commons: Amon G. Carter Hall, Teresa and Luther King Hall, Mary and Robert J. Wright Hall and Kellye Wright Samuelson Hall. The total amount given for facilities is $92 million.

A number of significant gifts and pledges have boosted the campaign total, including 41 of $1 million or more.

Currently, the top campaign priority is scholarships, and the university continues to raise funds for endowed positions, academic programs, faculty support and other needs.

The campaign, which began in June 2005, is slated to finish in 2012.
