Team of Neeley Fellows host “Live United Week” to inform peers About United Way
Fort Worth, TX
3/26/2009
A group of seven Neeley Fellows business students at the Neeley School of Business at TCU have teamed up with United Way to organize a weeklong event designed to inform their peers about the country’s largest non-profit organization. The event, dubbed Live United Week, will begin Monday, March 30, and conclude Friday, April 3, with a TCU Horned Frogs baseball game starting at 6:30pm. During the week, the Neeley Fellows team will distribute information to increase awareness of United Way on campus and encourage students to get involved in community life by donating, volunteering and speaking up for causes they care about.
Information booths will be set up in the Brown-Lupton University Union where students can learn about the organization and receive coupons for a free Live United T-shirt to be given away at the Friday night baseball game (TCU vs. New Mexico).
The Neeley Fellows– Catherine Anderson, Jacob Barnes, Adam Goodlett, Caleb Slavin, Robert Strong, Emily Taylor and Melissa Walton – are learning how businesses and nonprofits work together to advance the common good.
“Businesses can help nonprofits transform ideas into reality,” said Live United Week team leader Catherine Anderson, a junior accounting major.
United Way is the nation’s largest non-profit organization, helping communities by targeting root issues such as health, education, and income. Their current Live United campaign encourages involvement by giving to the organization, advocating for important issues, and volunteering time in the community.
The Neeley Fellows program is an honors division within the Neeley School of Business at TCU, consisting of 30 students each from the sophomore, junior and senior classes. Each year, the juniors in the program team up with local non-profits and complete service-learning projects to give back to the community and learn real-world business skills. Live United Week is the culmination of one of the team’s service-learning project.
