Container Store CEO Kip Tindell to speak January 23

Kip Tindell, chairman and CEO of The Container Store, will be the featured speaker at the Tandy Executive Speaker Series on Wednesday, January 23, 2008, hosted by Dan Short, dean of the Neeley School of Business at TCU.

The Tandy Executive Speaker Series brings business leaders to campus to share ideas and best practices with Metroplex business professionals. The breakfast event takes place 7:30-9:00 a.m. at the Dee J. Kelly Alumni & Visitors Center, 2820 Stadium Drive, on the TCU campus. Open-seating tickets are $20 each. "Fill the other guy's basket to the brim, then making money becomes an easy proposition." Tindell began shaping his business philosophy and flair for retail while in high school. Working at Montgomery Ward, he forged a friendship with Garrett Boone, his future business partner. Tindell then worked his way through college at Storehouse, where Boone was a regional manager.

The Container Store's first location opened in Dallas in 1978. More than 29 years later, there are 40 stores across the country and 2007 fiscal year sales are projected at an excess of $600 million. In 2006, Tindell, wife Sharon (chief merchandising officer) and Boone (chairman emeritus) were inducted into the Retailing Hall of Fame.
